Praying in the spirit

Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

1st Corinthians 14: 2, 13-15 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understanding him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit and I will also pray with understanding. I will sing with the spirit and I will also sing with understanding.

Jude 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.

Praying in the spirit is a spiritual gift to the bride of Jesus, the church, the body of Christ.
All gifts must be received in faith. So when you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior so should you accept the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Praying in the spirit or speaking in tongues is a prayer language only the triune God will understand, even though we as the mouth pieces may have limited understanding.

When we learn to do so, it enables our spirit to immediately connect with the will of God.
When we pray in such a way, we speak utterance we do not understand but our spirit prays for 3 specific reasons: 1) blessing to the Lord/ ministering to Him, 2) we pray blessing over ourselves, and finally, 3) we pray in the place of intercession.

Our spirit man, the indwelling spirit, presence within us is edified and built up when we pray in the spirit. Praying in the spirit can last 3 minutes or 3 hours. We can exercise or practice it when ever we choose. We are in complete control of this gift, although at certain times the more we surrender to Jesus, His constant intercessions pull us, call us to join Him in intercession through praying in the spirit and at times groanings. It’s a glorious mystery to partner with the Man Jesus in intercession.

Praying in the spirit is an excellent way to remain in the spirit when our flesh rears its constant head. Daily it’s a wonderful discipline to center ourselves on Jesus when life’s distractions so easily entangle our hearts… When we pray in the spirit in a focused intentional manner, we are saying to our heart, will and emotions to submit to our spirit and to the Holy Spirit.

If you are having a hard time praying with understanding (normally) or can’t focus on the Word, but want to connect with Jesus simply pray in the spirit and ask for Jesus’ heart. Pray in the spirit until you are aligned with Him in truth. Praying in the spirit ushers in His presence and peace when you are anxious or angry. Praying in the spirit is an excellent way to add another dimension to your walk with the Jesus.
