Genocide

Disclaimer: What I share is not a statement or opinion of the International House of Prayer (IHOP-KC). I am led and compelled to write what has been impressed upon my heart from reading the Word, fasting, and prayer. As you read, please do not accept what I say as fact but search it out in your own personal time with the Lord.

How to approach this: This is not a blog; its a static page so the updates will be at the bottom of this page as I add content. The sections of this page will be as follows: Intro, What is Pre-tribulation theology,  Arguments against and the consequences of Pre-trib, and prayers for revelation. Please feel free to jump around and read in whatever manner you choose. Whenever I quote the Word, it will be NKJV unless otherwise noted.

My prayer for all the readers: Phillippians 1:6,9-11 He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Christ (Return of Jesus/ the Day of the Lord), that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ (Return of Jesus/ the Day of the Lord), being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Spiritual Genocide of the Western Church: Pre-tribulation Pre-Millienialism Theology

Intro

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines genocide as the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group. Although this word has been described for tragic historical events such as the holocaust and Darfur, I believe it should be used to described to the hearts, minds, and spirits of the Western church who ascribe to such theology. During genocide, an evil agenda is being worked throughout the members of human beings to slaughter the innocent. I believe this evil all comes from the same source and  is being worked out in many different agendas. I am not here to write about satan, the enemy, but more so expose the working of the spirit of the end of the age and of the anti-christ system that has deceived much of the Western Church. It is a spirit of entitlement, fear, selfishness, and license to sin. Even more importantly, I will be directing us more so to the Man Jesus and not the set of events that are to take place. In the following several paragraphs, I will breifly describe my own personal journey, the pillars of Pre-tribulation theology, the consequences of it, and prayers for revelation. My hope is that you are able to read this with an open heart and a mind that is not afraid to ask the hard questions I am going to present.

I accepted Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour when I was about 7-8 years old. The memorable event happened at a Christian Methodist summer camp. I remembered the staff would inundate the camper with videos of persecution and the rapture before the seven year tribulation of the end times. Our week climaxed with a Friday night revival service. The preachers spoke of hell and our need for Jesus, but all I wanted was to avoid the seven year tribulation and the fires of persecution that were stored up for those who were not raptured at the end times. I ran to the alter like my brother with me and with tears not really knowing what I was doing and not understanding the incredible impact the prayers I prayed to invite Jesus into my heart.

It is only by the Lord Jesus and the Father’s incredible kindness, unconditional love, and infinite mercy that I am able to write on this subject. I am no different than any other Joe who was raised in the Pre-tribulation theology. Yet as I began asking the questions and set aside a season and a really a life time commitement of seraching out the scriptures learning what it has to say about End Times… something happen. I encountered a Jesus I never knew. I encounter the Man Jesus, the soon and returning conquering King, the Bridegroom lover of my soul, and the perfectly just Judge who comes in a robe of blood. I do not want to express myself as an authority on the subject but rather a billboard pointing those who read to the Man Jesus, to the Word, and back to knowledge of the Father. You see what’s coming is not necessarily a series of events but the Man Jesus who is bringing Heaven to Earth.

What is Pre-tribulation  Pre-Millienialism Theology?

References: Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem, When Jesus Returns by David Pawson

This approach and interpretation emerged during 1830 from three men in Europe, but the most influential and outspoken was Rev. John Nelson Darby (who left the Anglican Church to start the denomination: the Brethern). To give a little foundation of time, if we can think of time after Jesus ascended into Heaven by 3 separate periods: the Church Age, the Millenial Kingdom, and Eternity. Then according to Pre-trib, the church age will exist until Jesus returns (initial return, the Rapture), suddenly, unexpectedly, and secretly or covertly taking all the believers out of the earth. (1st Thess. 4:16-17). Once the church is removed and they are all in Heaven, the seven year tribulation will commence on earth. During the seven years, many signs that were spoken of in Matt 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 are to occurr prior to Jesus’ final return (2nd return).  It is understood that numerous Jews will accept Christ and particpate in an unprecented evagelistic ingathering. At the end of the seven year tribulation, Jesus with the saints will return to the earth to reign on earth for a thousand years until a rebellion (satan’s final fight and defeat) is crushed. There in brings the resurrection of unbelievers, the last judgment (Rev 20:11-15), and then eternity.

Proof Text for Pre-trib: 1st Thessalonians 4:16-17 (NIV)

16For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

 Pre-Tribulation arguments for:

1) Jesus’ return  [the Rapture] will be secret, sudden, unexpected without preceding signs to the take believers to Heaven with Him and to commence the beginning of the 7 year tribulation. It will be a surprise. 1st Thess 5:2 for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. No one knows when Matt 24:36

2) The speed of His coming implies an immient event. He is “coming soon”.  Revelations 22:7 Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”

3) Tribulation ( Seven years) is about God’s wrath, and it would not be appropriate for the Church to be present. 1st Thessalonians 5:9 For God has not appointed us to [incur His] wrath [He did not select us to condemn us], but [that we might] obtain [His] salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) [AMP].  Also read Romans 5:9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

4) Revelations 3:10 I will keep you from the hour of trial to come to the whole earth.

5) Matt 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21: the signs spoke of by Jesus are to apply to Jews who become believers and are supposed to follow His first coming.

 6) New Testatment expectation of His return. Mark 9:1 some will not taste death. Matt 24:34 This generation will not pass away until…

7) Absence of the word Church in the tribulation passages (Matt 24 and Revelations 4-18 speak of the elect, the saints)

8. Emphasis on comfort and encouragment. Not that He is coming back, but that He is taking us out of trials and trouble to come. 1st Thessalonians 4:13 & 18

 Arguments against Pre-Tribulation Pre-Millienialism

Pre-tribulation has a weak foundation of scriptural support based primarily on inference rather than clear statments. The readers are led more to read into scriptures (eisegesis) what is not there versus reading out of scripture (exegesis) what is there.

1) Wrath – “For God did not appoint us to wrath…” 1st Thess. 5:9 Pre-trib believers believe His wrath begins and ends with the bowls, seal, and trumpets from Revelations 6 -16. They equate the result or consequence of these events as the Lord’s wrath and that they should escape it. I want to address the underlying assumption and therein problem. In this life and side of Heaven Christians are not exempt from difficulties and misfortunes and that includes before Christ returns. This is a matter of the Fall being redeemed at the shout of the 7th trumpet with the glory and mission of Jesus’ return, because He is bringing Heaven with Him to earth to establish His kingdom and the restoration of all things. Until then all man kind have inherited the consequences of Adam, but even more as followers of Christ we are told that hardships are apart of this walk. John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will[a] have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” Acts 14:22  strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.”2nd Tim 3:12 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 1st Peter 4:12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you. Tribulation is most translations more frequently refer to persecutions and trials and only a couple times referencing to the Great Tribulation. Tribulation is pervalent all over the earth. The Great Tribulation and our life circumstances is merely a matter of scale versus kind.

Romans 1:18-19 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,  because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. Wrath is not an issue of end times. The eternally kind and merciful Father brought the Flood to the earth because of multiplied unrighteousness (Genesis 6:5-12). In Romans 1, wrath is known to the new Testament church because of our inclinations to unrighteousness. So people with sin need a judge to because they do not retain the knowledge of God. God is our judge, and we gain an understanding of his kindness in His judgments because they keep us in the way of rightouesness and fromm the snares of sin. Romans 2:3 and Psalm 19:7-14. The judgment of the Lord are a gift and blessed are those who call upon the Lord like David in Psalm 19.

Our attitude, understanding and knowledge of God’s intent is a night and day approach to the Great Tribulation. During the judgments of God in Revelations 6-16, as followers of Christ we know its only for a limited period of time (3.5 years). Also many will ednured and overcome during this hour with understanding the loving kindness of His judgments, and then the others will quake asking for the rocks to fall on them, burdened with fear and guilt (Revelations 6:16-17). Jesus is so kind to provide a detailed game plan. Not only will we know what happening, but as the united church we will be praying down the judgments of the Lord. Finally, our understanding of the Great Tribulation is a purification process for His bride, but what should terrify the unrighteous/ unsaved soul is the eternal lake of fire in Hell (Revelations 20:11-15).

2) Speed

The Pre-trib argument here is that Jesus, the son of God will return at any moment. Jesus in Revelations 22:20 states “Surely I am coming quickly.” Yet the concept of time to the Lord is much different than ours. In Psalm 90:4 and 2nd Peter 3:8 with the Lord “a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day.” I would no rather shout from the roof tops that He is returning very soon, which is truth. But a balanced, complete perspective reveals that God is incredibly patient so “that all should come to repentance.” (2nd Peter 3:9) Timing is critical to Jesus and so it shows in His parables of His second return that it is a length of time rather than immediacy (Matthew 24:48; 25:5-19). Jesus’ parable on harvest and timing has similar parallels (Matthew 13:30-41). Even James, Jesus’ brother, exhorts us to “be patient, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand” (James 5:7-8) Throughout the New Testament, a paradox of His coming as “soon” and length of time.” Both serve a purpose, but “soon” does not prove He could come at any moment.

3) Surprise

“A Thief in the Night”, the movie that debut in 1972 depicted the entire human population with the notion of surprise (unexpectedness) with Jesus returning and thus rapturing or removing from the earth those who were saved. Yet when you begin to read in scripture there are actually two audiences that are being spoken of. Two passages that are commonly mis-interpreted are: 2nd Thess 5:1-6 and Matt 4:36-44.

2nd Thessalonians 5:1-6 “But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant women. And they shall not escape. But you brethern, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, let us watch and be sober.”  In this passage, there are two groups of people. Those that are in darkness and sleep saying “peace and safety”, they will find the return of Jesus as a thief. But the other group is watchful and sober minded, understanding of the two groups, knowing times and seasons that leads them to His return and will not overtake them as a thief.

Matthew 4:36-44 But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. Again there are two groups being described here. Again the first group that is not aware of what the Lord is bringing, in this case a flood. This group also was swept away with the flood and was not ready/ watchful for the thief to come. You see Pre-trib usually states that the rapture will take the man and women and leave the others on earth. But scripture tells us that Jesus is bringing Heaven to earth. Why would we want to be taken away? (Revelation 21:2) Rather the second group who watch are not swept away by the flood and remain for Jesus’ kingdom to be established on earth.

7) Comfort

The consequences of Pre-Tribulation Pre-Millienialism

……detail to follow soon….

These points are interwoven and interrelated yet each one is distinct.

  1. The loss of the Fear of the Lord

The fear of the Lord is truly a teasure and gift to the body of Christ, yet it is hardly regarded, prayed for or sought after in fasting. Once received, it is the posture and attitude of the heart that leaves nations postrate before the Lord in awe and trembling. It is a trembling. It is an awareness of might, granduer, and perfect judgement. In the presence of pefect holiness, our weak flesh tremebles and our spirit shake with excitement because we have revelation of His mercy. Once we have the revelation of the magnitude of His mercy and the depth of our sinfulness, we are undone in a state of heart that leaves us in actutely aware of His call for us to holiness and obedience. The fear of the Lord is just that: living the call of consecration, walking in quiet reverence, and restoring/acknowledging the sacred and holy in life.  What do I mean by this? It about attitude and presence. Its about your time, things, and your words. Do you honestly walk in holiness? Do you think that is important to God? Do you regard His name? Does it bug you when people take it in vain? Have you set aside time and places as dedicated and sacred unto Him? Do you approach Him as an atm machine or the mighty Creator of Heaven and Earth? Do you hear His voice enough to walk in obedience? Do you obey His commandments? Do you realy take God seriously? Do you fear him?

The reason I am addressing the fear of the Lord and the hearts of those who believe pre-trib theology is because we (I have) regard holy living as not necessary since I am “saved” and waiting for Jesus to rapture me to heaven. I have been conditioned from the pulpit that holy living is not attainable so why should I try. Holy living, I mean that I seek to read the Word and know His heart by the Holy Spirit for me regarding what pleases Him and what would keep me from the trap of sin and unrighteousness. We live in a world where wrong is right and right is wrong. We have the 10 commandments to live from and then there’s the Holy Spirit who quickens us when we know we shouldn’t be doing or thinking something. Yet we disregarded it because it feels good or that’s what we’ve always done why stop.

You see the fear of the Lord is about the knowledge of God. The Father and Son are on a mission to capture our hearts, yet sin ensnares our heart. So the fear of the Lord keeps us in right standing before the Father and in right relationship before Jesus. David shares his heart and blesses the Lord in Psalm 19:7-14. You see when we are in sin, Jesus judges us and usually corrects us, if we are fortunate, or will let us continue in sin to our distruction, which if we choose Him we repent and then walk in righteousness… thus birthing the fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord keeps us from our secret faults, from our presumptuous sins that separate us from God. They want a love relationship with us, an abiding communing relationship from hang ups, distractions, and ultimately distruction.

Why do we need the fear of the Lord with regards to End Times and our theology?  Pre-tribulation theology advocates mediocrity, coasting, and compromise with secret sins our of life…. “We’re saved so why deal with our little sins, walk in holiness, and live in obedience? Jesus is coming back to rapture us before the tribulation anyway, right?”  The fear of the Lord is allowing the knowledge of God to correct our course of life and accept His leadership before He sets up Heaven here on earth and to prepare us for eternity. He wants a perfect and spotless bride when He returns. Are we accepting His leadership to lead us there? And are willing to believe that the tribulations of life and the great tribulation will help nad He designed to produce that?

So pray for the fear of the Lord. Ask the Holy Spirit to give it. Study of the scripture where it is mentioned. Find people and situations in the Word where the presence of God invokes it. Also ask the Holy Spirit where you comprise and sin out of half heartedness and the confess and repent. The fear of the Lord is a gift.

2. False assurance of salvation and the abuse of God’s grace

3. Arrogance and error of Replacement Theology

4. Blind to the coming Apostasy and Advocate for the antichrist and his system

There is a coming Apostasy (Matt 24:10-14 & 2nd Thess 2:3), where a historic number (millions) of confessing believers of Jesus will turn their hearts and renounce their allegiance to Him. Pre-tribulation followers believe they will be wisked away before tribulation commmences. The timing of the Apostasy is not exact in the Word, yet you can general deduct that it will happen not far from the beginning of the scond 3.5 years (Revelation of the anti-christ) before Christ returns to crush the armies of the earth and establish His kingdom. Why do I believe most of the Western Church is set-up for the Apostasy and will advocate for the anti-christ? Because their hearts are bent towards entitlement, comfort, and are easily offended by the ways of the Lord…

Entitlement, comfort and offense are birthed from an untempered heart void of the continual knowledge of God. Entitlement is a cancer in the heart of the Church. It says I deserve this; I did this therefor I should have. The Church that believes Pre-tribulation has a hidden entitlement of peace and safety. Their belief and hope again is to be gone from this planet when the bad stuff comes. An example of this is Israel, Palenstine and the surrounding nations. Israel being an allie of the United States will be a focal point of contention all over the planet. So when Israel fuels the rage of militant Islam and generates fear in the hearts of the Church… their natural inclination will be to do whatever would minimize it instead of knowing God’s heart, promises, and prophecy being fulfilled for Israel. So the Church has and will advocate for a two state divide of Israel out of fear rather than knowing His judgments over such actions (Joel 3:2).

Offense births things such as how could you do such a painful terrible thing in my life God, that is not the God I know, God doesn’t do that, well in the new testatment God is different, God has changed, God is fair, God is what I want Him to be, etc. And then He proves He is not, yet offense blinds us to the Truth when we choose not to accept His leadership.) Offense will come when man’s heart is fully given over to sin the world and the church is offended by the circumstances they experience this side of heaven. Many in the Church has refused Jesus’ leadership when He corrected people in sin or  Matthew 11:6 And blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) is he who takes no offense at Me and finds no cause for stumbling in or through Me and is not hindered from seeing the Truth.

So when Matthew 24:9-14 is carried out the Church will have their hearts unprepared before such events took place. And the ultimate, tragedy will be when the Church will be crying out for peace and safety in the middle east and the anti-Christ will provide it for a short season, short enough for their hearts to be given over to His economic system and not enough time to understand the ways of the Lord. You see Pre-tribbers are hoping be rapture and when they are expecting it and not expecting the anti-Christ to show up… he will be the man of the hour providing what their hearts desire: peace and safety.  And beyond sadly, their destiny and destination is forever sealed in time…

Prayer: So my prayer has been, “Lord offend me now so that I am not offended then”. This prayer has been after I’ve been through 2 years of God going to every extent to offend me. And then another prayer “Change my heart, O God that I would accept your leadership and Your ways. Increase me in the knowledge of You.”

5. Foundation of comfort and escapism rather than righteousness and justice

6. Distorted view of the knowledge of God and Judgment

7. Jesus: the man you never knew
